Nicole Richie, often known as gal-pal of Paris Hilton, is at it again. No, this time it’s not club hopping, drugs or eating disorders. Believe it or not, she is confirmed to be pregnant, with the father being Joel Madden of the popular band Good Charlotte.

With an up-coming court case which has now been postponed to August 16, this couldn’t have come at a better time for Nicole. She is facing driving under the influence (DUI) charges after being arrested driving the wrong way down a freeway. Richie told the police she had been smoking marijuana earlier that night.

Not only could this be a “get out of jail free” card, this could also be apart of a new Nicole Richie. Now that is has been confirmed she has been pregnant, one would have to wonder whether her party lifestyle will continue given its detrimental impact on a baby. No more long nights of drinking, random hook-ups and doing drugs at one club then the next. Perhaps this reform could help friends such as Britney Spears who’s only change since her multiple babies has been a divorce paper see the “right way”.

It could be argued that Nicole deserves to be sent to jail – do the crime, do the time – despite the fact she is pregnant. Whether she is sent to jail now, or sent to jail after giving birth is now up to the judge and jury.

Regardless of what happens, the one girl who manages to make Paris Hilton look talented could very well end up a mother quite soon, and only time will tell if this will be for the better and if the likes of Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan will follow in her footsteps.

In a message that went up Monday on her Paris MySpace page and reported in the New York Post, the hotel heiress writes (in her own spelling): “My friend Joshua started this petition, please help and sihn it. i LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!”

The petition, directed to California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, asks that Hilton be pardoned from her sentence of 45 days in jail for violating the terms of her probation by driving with a suspended license. The punishment was handed down in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday. An appeal has been filed.

“I urge all fans and supporters and all that are outraged by injustice to sign this petition,” writes Hilton.

The petition, which had more than 900 signatures by Tuesday morning, urges the California actor-turned-governor to pardon Hilton because she provides “beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives.”
